Following some impressive friendly wins over the Netherlands and Germany, the United States men's national team takes on an entirely different beast -- CONCACAF. They're favorites to win the Gold Cup, but they'll be facing some very stiff competition (and lenient officiating) en route to the title. First up, Honduras.
Being a top seed in the tournament hasn't led to the U.S. getting an easy group. Honduras made the last World Cup, their group-mates Panama were about to make it before the Americans spoiled their party in the Hex, and Haiti put on a good showing in the last tournament. The USMNT should win on Tuesday and finish on top of the group, but neither is a given.
The United States are without Tim Howard, who is on leave from national team duty, as well as injured players Geoff Cameron, Jermaine Jones and Jordan Morris. Honduras have opted to mix up their squad a bit, leaving a half-dozen seasoned veterans at home and calling in some younger players. The likes of Noel Valladares, Maynor Figueroa and Boniek Garcia are still around, though.
