Austria take on Wales in Vienna on Thursday, in what should be a close World Cup qualifier. The hosts endured a terribly disappointing Euro 2016 campaign in France back in the summer, being eliminated in the group stages after scoring only once in their three matches. However, coach Marcel Koller survived with his job intact, and his side bounced back in their first qualifier with a 2-1 win away in Georgia.
Wales, in contrast, managed to carry the momentum from their unlikely run to the Euro 2016 semifinals by thrashing Moldova 4-0 in their opening fixture. Manager Chris Coleman was linked to several other jobs after Wales' success in France, but stayed loyal to his national team and will hope to reap the rewards. In a fairly even qualifying group, picking up points at this early stage will prove vital for both teams.
