Benitez has a tough first match in charge of his new team ahead of him.

Monday is going to be a big day, with Leicester City needing to maintain their lead in the title race, and Newcastle hoping to claw their way out of the relegation zone -- and oh yeah, they're debuting a new manager you may have heard of.

Rafa Benitez takes charge of his first match as the manager of Newcastle, just days after replacing the fired Steve McClaren. He needs to get his team off to a strong start because things are looking pretty grim on Tyneside right now -- and the quicker he can distance himself from the underwhelming performance of Real Madrid that got him fired from his last job, the better.

Of course, he couldn't ask for much of a more difficult start to his Newcastle tenure. An away match to the league leaders to kick things off, then quickly pivoting to the Tyne-Wear derby against fellow relegation battlers Sunderland? With an injury plagued team with no positive momentum whatsoever? Yikes. Benitez has his work cut out for him in a big way.

Key player -- Jonjo Shelvey (Newcastle)

A lot of Rafa's managerial gameplan is going to depend on Shelvey to succeed. At his best, Shelvey is Newcastle's top midfield playmaker by a mile, but his play can be very erratic, both on a game-to-game basis and even within one. Unless Benitez can find a way to steady Shelvey out, Newcastle fans will be sweating bullets while they try to figure out which version of the bald midfielder they're going to get in this match.

Key matchup -- Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City) vs. Paul Dummett (Newcastle)

Mahrez is a difficult matchup problem for any team in the EPL with the form he's been in, but it's especially tricky for Newcastle. In terms of a skillset matchup, Dummett is never going to be an ideal candidate to take Mahrez on one-on-one, but he's been dealing with a hamstring injury that's going to make things even tougher for him. If Mahrez can consistently get the best of him, Newcastle might be up a creek without a paddle.
