The International Champions Cup is bringing us a fascinating matchup between the champions of England and France: Leicester City and Paris Saint-Germain. While PSG are working on preparing for what looks to be their fifth straight Ligue 1 title, Leicester have a lot of work to do as they hope to defend their first-ever Premier League title.
The Foxes paid for their success last season by taking a huge loss in the transfer market, with crucial midfielder N'Golo Kante leaving for Chelsea. Leicester only narrowly kept Jamie Vardy despite a strong push from Arsenal to snag the EPL's second-most prolific goalscorer last season. Kante's loss is going to be a big one to recover from, and Claudio Ranieri has his work cut out for him to keep Leicester playing at the same inspiring level they did last season. That's especially true with the Champions League looming, and seeing how they do against a powerhouse like PSG will be a good indicator as to how his team is looking for the upcoming campaign.
Fun Leicester City player to watch: Nampalys Mendy
Leicester took a big loss in the transfer market when Chelsea signed Kante away from them, but they have high hopes that Mendy can be a more than adequate replacement. An astoundingly athletic midfielder, Mendy definitely has the pure ability to give Leicester everything Kante did in all phases of the game. It's just a matter of how well he can adapt to his teammates and the big uptick in speed and physicality he'll have to deal with jumping from Nice in France's Ligue 1 to the defending EPL champions. A game against PSG and their high-powered midfield should be a good sign of how far along he's come so far, and Leicester fans will be hoping that they see him play at a high level.
Fun Paris Saint-Germain player to watch: Adrien Rabiot
The big-haired French midfielder may just be 21, but Rabiot has already shown significant talents over the last couple of years that could play a big role in just about any midfield in Europe. He is, unfortunately, on a team with arguably the best midfield around, one that only got stronger with the addition of Grzegorz Krychowiak earlier this summer. Krychowiak isn't with the team yet, though, and nor are several of PSG's other best midfielders, giving Rabiot a chance to shine against a very good team in Leicester. If he plays as well as he's capable of, he could force Unai Emery to give him a bigger role than ever in the upcoming season.
