Sam Allardyce will take charge of his first match as England manager on Sunday, as the Three Lions kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign away in Slovakia. Big Sam has resisted the urge to make wholesale changes from Roy Hodgson's Euro 2016 selection, with only West Ham United's Michail Antonio in line for his first cap away in Trnava.
Though England are favorites heading into this fixture, and traditionally have a very good qualifying record for major tournaments, they'll be wary of the threat posed by their hosts. Slovakia held England to a goalless draw in France earlier in the summer, en route to a place in the Euro 2016 knockout stages. Their run was largely thanks to a string of excellent performances from Napoli's Marek Hamšík, who will once again be pulling the strings on Sunday.
England's last visit to Slovakia came all the way back in a Euro 2004 qualifier in Bratislava in 2002. On that occasion Middlesbrough striker Szilárd Németh fired the hosts into the lead, only for second half goals from David Beckham and Michael Owen to give Sven-Göran Eriksson's men a 2-1 victory. It's unlikely to be much more comfortable for England this time around.
