As good as Chelsea’s performance, the guard of honor, and Premier League trophy ceremony were on Sunday, the best part of the day was John Terry’s speech afterwards. Following the Chelsea captain’s final game at Stamford Bridge, he took the microphone and thanked everyone who had a part in his incredible 20-year career at the club.
In his speech, Terry asks long time Chelsea assistant Steve Holland to take the mic and say goodbye, as well, thanks owner Roman Abramovich for his commitment to the youth teams, gets emotional as he thanks fans for singing for him when he struggled, asked those same fans to sing for manager Antonio Conte, and got hugs from his crying children.
It’ll go down as one of the best farewell speeches in sports history.
