Green Bay Packers
The Packers flew out of the gate in 2017 with a 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS record before losing star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a broken collarbone early in a 23-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Including that loss, Green Bay ended the season on a 3-8 SU and 4-7 ATS skid, failing to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2008.
With Rodgers back at 100% heading into the 2018 season, Green Bay will try to get back to the top of the NFC North division for the sixth time in eight seasons.
In their last nine games as a favorite of seven points or more, the Packers are just 3-5-1 ATS and have been outright upset three times per the OddsShark NFL Database.
Chicago Bears
Chicago made the biggest splash of the preseason last weekend when it traded two first round picks to the Oakland Raiders for linebacker Khalil Mack. Mack is a generational talent on defense, as indicated by this trade which immediately bumped Chicago down from 100-1 to win the Super Bowl all the way down to 40-1.
Mack is expected to play on Sunday despite very limited exposure to the playbook. The Bears are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games against Green Bay.
Sunday night’s total is set at 47.5 points. The OVER is 7-2 in the last nine games between these two rivals.
The addition of a pass rusher like Mack to Chicago’s defense suddenly makes this game a lot more interesting. Green Bay will still have the clear edge in this game on offense, but with Mack and first round pick Roquan Smith bolstering the Bears’ linebacking core, Aaron Rodgers could have a good early season test on his hands.
