The two women's semifinals at the 2012 French Open are officially set after the quarterfinal matches wrapped up on Wednesday.
The second of two Wednesday semifinal matches saw fourth-ranked Petra Kvitova defeat Yaroslava Shvedova in three sets. After dropping the first set 3-6, Kvitova battled back to take the match by winning the final two sets, 6-2, 6-4. Although the two players were very evenly matched, Kvitova's superior percentage of receiving points won and her five aces against just one for Shvedova ended up being the key difference makers.
Kvitova will now face No. 2 Maria Sharapova in the semifinals. The other women's semifinal match will pit No. 6 Samantha Stosur against No. 21 Sara Errani.
