Things continue to break Novak Djokovic's way at the 2016 US Open. After the Serb made an early exit from the Rio Olympics in the first round, he's made it all the way through to the Round of 16 having only played four complete sets.
Djokovic went four sets in his opener, but his second-round opponent, Jiri Vesely, had to withdraw due to injury. That gave Djokovic a walkover, but his third-round opponent, Mikhail Youzhny, also withdrew due to injury. Djokovic was leading 4-2 in the first set when his opponent pulled out.
The top seed, Djokovic is favored to win the US Open -- though his chief competition, Andy Murray, is still going strong in the other half of the bracket.
Rafael Nadal was also in action on Friday. Nadal, the fourth seed, breezed through his opponent, Andrey Kuznetsov, in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. Nadal is also one of the top competitors for Djokovic and he's looked great thus far. Nadal has dealt with plenty of injuries that have derailed his career in recent years, but he's playing some excellent tennis of late.
American Jack Sock, the 26th seed, scored the big upset on Friday by beating Marin Cilic. Sock took down Cilic, the seventh seed, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.
On the women's side, American Madison Keys was pushed to three sets against Naomi Osaka, but she ultimately came out on top to advance to the Round of 16. Roberta Vinci, the seventh seed, was also in action and took down Carina Witthoeft.
Angelique Kerber, the women's second seed, also had a match on Friday. She lost only two games en route to a quick 6-1, 6-1 victory. Below is a list of results from singles play and a look at what Saturday will bring.
