If it's not NFL tested and done in moderation, why not...
…beats the drunk guys getting into trouble with law we see all the time.

I think we actually are on the same page.
I can give him the next two seasons. 2022 better be the start of something REALLY good. My main objection is that the years between runs really don’t have to be that bad. They could (minimally) be interesting. That’s what’s hard with Moore. If he wants to build a team of young and cheap in the lean years, great. If he wants cheap reclamation projects that can be flipped for assets, fine, too. Maybe they win some, lose some, but there’s a direction. It’s the tendency to spend years with pretty expensive veterans with little upside who block positions from younger guys. And he hangs onto them! Sometimes resigning them!
This franchise has just had too many years of being 20 games out before the All-Star break with teams filled with not super cost effective guys in their 30’s. I think we can do better… However, if there is another run that gets this city another championship less than a decade after the previous one, I’ll forgive all that.

I think he'll have $30M reasons...
To try to "rediscover the spark" and return in 2021 for a last payday. If he wanted to go out a legend, last year was his chance.

The question is...
Did the bye give teams a huge advantage OR are teams that are already good the ones earning the bye in the first place?
I’m really not sure…

That puts him in the decent-ish range, but PFF has noted that he has been trending up for a while. Don’t think he has a ceiling as an elite player or anything. But he might well be very good. And "very good" should be the gold standard for most of the defense (considering how much this offense is about to cost us).

The notion that KC has always been at the bottom of payroll isn't supported by data.
Take a look at this and note how many years KC has been in the 15-20 rank in terms of payroll:

In virtually every season if you go to each of the three spots above the Royals, you’ll see (at minimum) one team that at least pretended contention into August. You’ll also find a handful of teams most years that accomplished this in the places below the Royals, too. Moore put together the perfect team at the perfect moment. I’ll never regret his time in KC because of this one fact.
It’s also perfectly fair to say that the Royals being patently awful most years outside of this isn’t acceptable. Saying "X team lost to the Yankees in a 5-game series" does not negate this.

He might take it.
You’re one down from the end of a career every game in the NFL. $7M-$12M is a lot to say no to. The Chiefs have also done right by him (as a player and as a person). For someone facing the stuff Ward does, the comfort and consistency of staying probably has some value, too. So I think it’s worth trying.

The false dichotomy presumed here is the source of GMDM's power.
The idea that YEARS of being completely out of contention by July (often much sooner!) was necessary for the Royals to build a World Series roster is not born out of any evidence. The notion that the Twins were incomplete but settled for illusory and temporary success greatly undervalues what that team accomplished.
Would I trade 2014 and 2015 to be the Twins? Absolutely not. But that’s not necessary. The Royals have spent most seasons for well over a decade trotting out overpaid Francoeur-type players and losing nearly 100 games. It is possible to both build a World Series team and not do this virtually every season.

In NE, he gave up some salary to get rings.
For his final huzzah, I think he’ll go to the team/market that will give him the biggest payday.

Watching Ward grow as a player has been great.
Learning more about the challenges he’s faced to get where he is has been even more inspiring.

And convinced fans rebuilds take 6-8 years...
…so weird how many low-ish payroll teams somehow manage to at least be a little competitive every few years!

The "one voice" model can get you Belichick.
It can also get you Pioli, King Carl, or Jerry Jones.
I like the Chiefs version better

Concentration of power is rarely good for an organization.
The "too many chefs" concern in typically less of a danger than having myopic decisions from one source.

This could stall their QB replacement process for YEARS.
Brady moved towards being a middle to below avg QB all last year. Over the next two years on the Raiders he’s only gonna get worse. And at $60M they are LOCKED to him for 2 seasons.
Assuming they draft the perfect QB immediately after, it will be another 2 years before he seriously contributes. This screws the Raiders for a half decade!

If Reek wants to be in the Olympics...
…he should consider bobsled. I’m serious. The quick power sprint he does playing football would be an easy transition (as it has been for several NFL players over the years). Transitioning back to being a world class sprinter might be a reach. But with the right team that has the right equipment, he could absolutely do it.
