Die-hard Spurs (and Ginobili, duh) fan since '94 from here in Atlanta, when I figured: why can't a guy pull for a Western Conference team, as well as his hometown Eastern Conference team? I Pound the Rock daily. (Profile photo is of Diesector, the greatest BattleBot ever imho, built by Donald Hutson of Mutant Robots.) Season 2 completed Summer of 2016 with a new King of the Box: Tombstone rose from the dead to lay claim to The Giant Nut. And, yes, Virginia, there was finally a Season 3! Thrilled that Hutty's Lock-Jaw made it to the Final Four, but in the end Bite Force reclaimed the Giant Nut by KO over Minotaur. Great season of robot fightin'!! As I anxiously awaited a new Spurseason, I squelched the boredom with Season 4 of BattleBots. And then, in the words of Doctor Strange, "it was done." Like our beloved Spurs, there Lock-Jaw was, yet again, in the postseason. There also, like a veritable Thanos, was the reigning champ, Bite Force, standing between Hutty and the Semis. Alas, R.I.P. (after KO), L-J. BF went on to make short work of Tombstone, and the upstart (and ever-improving) Witch Doctor in the Final. Ventimiglia's bad boy is now 17-0 over the last two seasons. Will anyone pry the Giant Nut from it's cold blue lifters? Will a mid-quarter sideline reporter ever ask Pop an intelligent question? Looks like Death & Taxes to me... (Update:) For reasons I have yet to learn, the champ went on hiatus. Who knows when or if Bite Force will return to the Battle Box? Season 5 came under a dark pandemic cloud. Fans were physically distanced while drivers drove safely from outside the Battle Box; and the 'bots? Surely it was controlled mayhem as usual. Masks? BattleBots don't need no steenkin' masks. With the 2020-2021 NBA season set under the Christmas tree, would we also be seeing robotic sport to help fend off the Covid misery? Either way, it'd soon be Fightin' Time! ...and it came to pass: an excellent season of BB, entering the final episode of playoff matches - the Elite 8 if you will (and if you won't, expect a little Tantrum vertical spinner in your grill) - alas without my boy Donnie (Mutant Robots due for an upgrade), gone in the round of 32. No Bite Force (load management well deserved), no Witch Doctor (thought to be the heir apparent, but nooooo), nor even the former owner of The Giant Nut, Tombstone (like Lock-Jaw, failure to adapt?). The smart money was on #1 seed Hydra, a flipper extraordinaire, but Team Whyachi had gaagh'd in the past, so we would see... ...and see we did as exultation rose from Down Under and the crew from New Zealand with their devastating bot End Game raised the Giant Nut. Good on ya mates! BB Season 6 & 7 comments to come..... Soon sparks will fly, quarter-ton machines will be launched to the rafters of the Battle Box. Can't wait!
