"Justin, Steph, how did it go yesterday?"
"It went well boss, but there was this one site, it was like unlike all the others–"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, on all the other sites we visited, it seemed pretty normal, there was sports talk, stats, basic fandom, but then there was this group of Islanders fans, now that was one strange group."
"Not the cat guy again?"
"Yes, the cat guy. And the sock puppet guy. And the goalie guy. And these other weirdos too. They seem to talk in code, I think the word Leo is codeword for something bigger they’re planning. And apparently they remade Fast Times at Ridgemont High with Kate Upton getting out of the pool and only this group knows about it. They have strange names, and even stranger jokes and only they seem to get their own humor. I think we should 86 this one."
"Just remove it completely?"
"I think we have to. It appears to me that being a fan of such a terrible organization for so many years has caused serious irreversible harm to this one subset of species. It’s for their own good."
"Okay, I’ll let them know up the chain of command. We won’t bother changing this one. It will just self-detonate on its own."
"It’s okay, it’s the Islanders, they only have like 8 fans anyway, no-one will notice its gone."

I posted about that the other day, that Flyers team was excellent. Crazy streak, never lost. It’s amazing how, when you lose the championship ie teams that lose the Super Bowl, history just forgets you.
Groupies, stalkers and GFYs, Oh my!

I guess Lou is supposed to get with the American program of instant gratification, self entitlement, over indulgence, and me first.
somebody set up Lou with an Instagram and show him how to take selfies.
Enough already Lou with this team first attitude!
we were sent back to our corners
I’m at peace with it and happy to step up for the Buddha.
it’s not like I’m the guy who defends Milbury, now that guy should run the Coli staircase Ho Sang style.

I just get defensive over our coach because i have historical context with our org and I understand life before him and life after and this is a rare golden age for our franchise thanks to him

No. It’s not about one player
Itf it was we already agreed Wahlstrom should have played over zajac
Its about moronic bullshit about blindspots, or was it wrong philosophy, or was it he doesn’t play youth or he doesn’t understand a first line, or whatever other bullshit ive read
Trust ne if it was just about Wahlstrom i would have backed out a while ago
But i feel the need to defend our great coach because he’s being attacked like he doesn’t know what he’s doing

Am i in the twilight zone or something? Did they not just go to the conference finals two years in a row thanks to how barry coaches or should he be more like the other coaches whose teans go home early? Have you not noticed Washington hasn’t even won a round since trotz left?

I think it’s more likely he doesn’t think there is such a thing as a first line in the playoffs and that he wants balance, he plays situational hockey, he plays matchups and he wants to know each of his lines can bring certain qualities so he can roll all four under whatever scenario there is and he doesn’t want turnovers. And he cares that the puck stays out of his net. So all four lines have to have grit and defend. And be tough to play against. That’s why he thought Leo should play. He knows he can’t score.

you guys keep bringing up a point that Leo can’t score a if somehow this is lost on the best coach in the league…you really think he doesn’t know there are better finishers as options for that line?
Comment 5 recs
they beat Pitt, Boston and were within a game of beating Tampa and on the road in game 7, didn’t give up an even strength goal, and would have run over MTL.
what other data are you interested in seeing?
Comment 2 replies
no, I believe zajac was a mistake since obviously JGP was healthy enough to finish the games
I never took issue with Leo as Lee’s replacement. The numbers were in that line’s favor.

Rant, you don’t need an advanced math degree to know leo can’t finish. Trotz is the best coach in the league, he’s not stupid
What i know is there are logical reasons for why he sets his rosters and it here’s more to it than age or finishing ability
They lost the cup on a shorty. So trotz was geniusly making the right moves to get them within a shorty from winning a cup

By the playoffs he was a regular since he was the most qualified to bring the qualities Lee offered that line besides finishing. But by that time trotz was done tinkering and he settled on his lines. The numbers showed that line was producing way more than it was giving up even with us getting frustrated watching leo miss scoring opportunities

Actually it was my statement that age alone is not how trotz puts a lineup together that he objected to with his Wahlstrom take which he has stated a thousand times and they lost without scoring so obviously it was the wrong move but no matter how nany times ive said the pageau injury played a role in the decision he keeps repeating himself that Wahlstrom should have played. In retrospect pageau never had to come out so it’s easy to criticize bit if he came out and zajac was there to take faceoffs then it would have been the right move
Regardless of all the leo and zajac complaints they were a win away from a cup with them in there so trotz is no fool

I already did admit it was the wrong move
What i find head scratching is how many times you can repeat yourself

And what these guys who fixate on leo don’t understand is that after leo is gone it’s gonna be another player who they think is less skilled playing over a more skilled player that will drive them nuts then. It’s always going to happen at times.
Because lou and barry know, a winning formula and is not just trying to outscore your opponent, it’s about compiling a certain overall skillset that also allows them to win defensively. Tampa didn’t start winning until they learned you can’t just outscore your opponent and you also need boring players who do the dirty work.
So if its not leo it will be someone else. And the same group of posters will start up again.

I really long for the day when I don’t have to hear complaining about Leo. Barry likes Leo, he plays him because he is a system player, he brings a certain quality of what Trotz seeks for each line. Barry never plays all skill guys together. He has said it repeatedly. Barry likes his lineup to have a little bit of everything so Leo will play at times over players with more skill because he likes what Leo can bring that a skill guy won’t. Winning formulas aren’t just about fielding the most stick handlers.

your’e making general statements.
of course, any coach is going to trust a player who has been through it before more than a younger person without experience.
just like it’s a general statement that younger players hit physical walls at some point their rookie years. Which is why they would never rest their season on Bolduc for a deep playoff run.
but in the end, if you look at Barry’s overall body of work, including WSH, he plays younger players. To just pick out one of two instances and make a general observation isn’t being fair. Beau and Barzal have played and they have been young.

I agree it was the wrong decision. but he doesn’t just set his lineup card after checking birth certificates.
Comment 1 rec
they are absolutely going to add a vet somewhere along the way if they role with Bolduc during the regular season. No way Bolduc plays much in the playoffs.

age alone is not the only factor. we can discuss this till we’re blue in the face, but with Pageau’s injury, having another center played a part in the decision making with zajac.
Comment 1 reply, 2 recs
i’ve been fighting that narrative, I don’t see the evidence that he won’t play someone just based on age alone.
