Question of the day ????
You place Ben Simmons as (currently constructed) on a pre Durant Warriors and replace him with Boguts Roll , is that a better team with Bogut or Simmons in that roll Defensively/offenseively then the original, why or why not, and are you for or against Simmons trade?
Why I’m fine with pairing Simmons with Draymond
First , I’d like to say Wiggins has been great and his growth has lead me to believe he has more upside then what I initially thought when we acquired him , particularly on Defense where I had my biggest questions when acquired (Props to Myers for realizing Wiggins at least had potential to be good on D compared to DLo)He has worked hard on that end and Deserves the moniker Two Way Wiggy but for a Draymond Simmons hypothetical trad to happen he would have to go money wise, with that said.
I believe allowing Simmons to take some of offensive ball handling responsibility and more importantly lessening the heavy load on Defense for Draymonds undersized shoulders will free up Draymond to focus on his offensive game which he hasn’t looked to refine since KD joined the team. It is a tall task to ask an undersized 6’6 player to guard the western conference elite centers night in night out, is it any wonder why Draymond 3pt percentage dropped when he was asked to spend more time at the 5 when Bogut ( who doesn’t get enough credit for the teams early run ) left. In 2015-16 season Draymond shot a career high .388 from long range, the following year after Boguts Departure it fell to .308 ,once he assumed the roll of unquestioned defensive leader. To me Draymond has lost his Stroke because of the attention and has focused battling down low, where he has to always battle for position being so undersized ,and you know he’s battling when he hardly loses his matchup at his stature! You bring in Simmons he can do a lot of what Draymond can do and allow him to get back a decent shooting percentage, if Simmons comes on board and Dre goes back to shooting %35 from three I don’t think anybody calls the acquisition Anything but a success .
Draymond has the do what ever it takes to win mentality and I have NO doubt he would work on what ever skill he needs to stay on the court and win, a bit ironic considering That is the exact criticisms of Ben in Phily refusing to shot ,who better to mentor Simmons then Draymond himself , And has Ben a top tier IQ guy In the league ( YES, I saw him pass that shot up in the playoffs) Ever had a passer as good as Draymond on his squad, his ceiling in a pass heavy motion offense may open up potential he hasn’t shown before .
In closing I think Ben Simmons is the equivalent to adding a Andrew Bogut who can Handle and defend the perimeter allowing Draymond to save his legs on the defensive side and get back to putting up respectable 3pt percentage!!
Stat of the day that may surprise you . Who else would have guessed Draymonds Free throw percentage was almost %80 this year at %79.5?!?! Hallmark sign for potential improvements in 3point shooting ; )
Only if Millsap come on the min
I think Millsap would be an okay to good addition at this stage of his career, but I’d rather save the Midlevel for a buy out . We saw players like Drummond, Griffin, went to contending last year and I believe nets and Lakers wound not have that available so that is a HUGE advantage we would have , if only to prevent those two from signing a game changer.Point being There is always a player that becomes available that no one thought would be available in the buy out market Im looking at Klove,Steven, adams if Pelicans are not in the playoff picture I could see Jonas Valanciunas being up for grabs aswell as anybody not in the future plans of the grizzlys.Where I think the warriors could potentially strike GOLD this season is not making a huge splash half way through the season and adding a "star" player , probably having to trade more then a few key contributors and trying to learn to play together on the fly, but picking up pieces in the aftermath of a trade like that by the other teams , PJ Tucker for example, nets thought they need another star but honestly could have gained more by aquiiring depth . Say Blazers go Im rebuild mode sending Dame to another team There will be definitely be some pieces Warriors could use if they want to start the rebuild process sooner then later
