Weight classes matter.
Deontay was 40lbs lighter than Fury. That’s potentially 6 weightclasses in boxing and 4 in mma. That’s like Max taking on Whittaker or Izzy who actually weights 185 or close to it.
It greatly reduced the effectiveness of his punches on Fury. If Fury weights 240 that’s a different fight. It’s why I cant get too excited by the win.
As McG said in the rematch: the punches he landed on 300lb Nate wouldve leveled smaller mountains or lessee men. But 300lb Nate was too much.

It was an interesting fight but
HW def needs an upper limit to make the fighters more evenly matched. Tyson and Qawi showed you can give up height and reach as long as your close in weight.
But historically that’s why we have weight classes.
Like any weightclass Fury realized that a smaller man’a power can be neutralized by a bigger man’s size.

Holyfield
Got hurt by Foreman and that was a bad look for Holyfield that he couldnt drop a guy he was landing on at like 80% rate or something.
But as you say Holyfield was not a true HW and hence couldnt generate the same power as 6’3" light hitting Ali.

I definitely agree.
Right now, technically a guy weighting infinte stones could fight a guy weighting 20 stone and that’s technically a HW fight. It also probably allows for skills to be the poorest in boxing because of size and speed difference between opponents.
Wilder really is a CW but he’s slow he has to fight at HW. But a guy who weights in at 220 or less over 6’3" is really odd man out and lacks the strength for clinching in HW division.

Fury is just
Too big for Wilder. No one could back Wilder up like that cause no one else in HW is that big.
If Fury was no more than 10lbs heavier than Wilder it’s a different fight. If Fury weights in at 240 or less it’s a different fight.
Kudos to Fury for using his size to keep Wilder on his backfoot. Wilder would have to learn how to become either a defensive Wizard or a high volume fighter to beat a bigger man. And since Fury is the only match up at HW like that it’s unlikely he will.

Wilder was tired by the second round
And actually initated the first few clinches. But he was actually tired after throwing and missing those first few fights.
Fury’s Ali headlock was brillant stuff. Backing Wilder up was great stuff too. Wilder even at 231 is skinny and cant move around an opponent like a skinny guy needs to in order to get time to throw his shots.
Kudos to Fury but must say, Fury is a natural cherry picker in terms of fighting when HE’S ready not his opponent. Retired after Vlad. Refused the rematch and took time to get his lungs and legs in shape. In that he mirrors Mayweather and SRL in that he fights a guy when he’s pretty certain he can beat that particular fighter.
What would’ve happened if he fought the rematch right away? Don’t know but it shows the brillance of Fury.

Huh?
How’s that again?

Hate to say
I told ya so. But I did. Fury is a tough guy. But the weight difference was too much. What will seem weird is that a skinnier vs of Wilder would’ve been sharper and could have avoided the clinches more.
But I would love to hear what Wilder’s plan B was? Fury had three plans for success. Wilder just seened to have two and the 2nd was coming off the canvass to ko Fury which isnt a plan.

Do they still measure
Wrist, neck, thigh, waist
All the stuff that used to give you the measure of a man.

But it's not the movement that
Tires you so much in a fight as it is the constant nerves and tensing to be ready to strike. It’s like you’re on pins and needles the entire time and find it hard to get into the zone you’re normally in while training where you’re not tensing at all and you’re very relaxed.
