I have to say had some great points regarding the bias he’s gotten and has zero illusions about Diego’s current place as a legend at the end of his career.

It’s true that Diego was totally getting his ass kicked in his fights before, and we were all taking joy from his absolute savage mentality of walking into 5 punches to land 1. But getting KTFO like that truly ain’t good for him.

True he’s effectively 1-2 under Fabia but he did have a great performance against Gall. And Fabia, as strange as some of his stuff is, he does seem to have interest in Diego’s health.

With that said, I wish Luke would’ve said look, you are well trained but even you use a lawyer. So why not use best practice and have a professional cornerman or Olympic wrestling trainer/coach to help?

Diego’s had a definite path to victory which definitely involved wrestling, engaging in grappling and eventually wearing down the muscle head. But Fabia seems to feel it’s too dangerous to do a take down. Well it might be more dangerous to just stand all fight as we saw.

And the other point is Faria acts like he’s Mr Self Aware, but I would’ve liked to see a bit less self defensiveness on the call too.

But overall I have to say that maybe he has gotten a bit worse of a wrap than he deserved.

Many things can be said about this dude, and global phenomenon is one of them.

I can respect it and it def makes for a fun fight.

He actually systemically crushed Diego until he quit. I thought he looked very improved.

But especially when it comes to becoming champion, you’re fighting to win not get a default.

One other thing I just realized is Smith prob had a guaranteed purse in that fight, so he had less to think about.

My thing is that the real Diego NEVER would’ve taken that way out. Hope he retires or gets a real team.

Wonder what he was thinking as he was waiting to get the DQ announcement.

He quit his team for some lunatic, has no coaching, no corner, no more game plan, and now he did the one thing he’d never do – gave up a fight to take the easy way out.

Getting old and lesser of a fighter is not shameful. But the dude lost himself in that moment.

If you must keep fighting, please at least join a real team again Diego! Keep the squirrel dude guru for after practice chats.
