Your guess sounds reasonable
I know when certain posters get off their meds and start the vile, personal back-and-forth attacks, I quit following that thread. Of course, the number of vile, personal attacks far outnumber my meager clicks. The net effect of effective moderation – totally missing on BON currently – must be positive though.

Yes
I use an ad blocker but I’ve never had a request/demand to turn it off like on other sites. My question is even more valid, though. Why would they want to reduce traffic to make it easier on moderators?

Same With Manning
There are several big programs and numerous players waiting for him to get off the pot. Surely he knows where he wants to go by now. What more can he learn bt waiting? Negotiate the NIL and pledge. Let the dominoes fall.

How Do They Make Any Money?
The site basically is ad-free so the number of clicks wouldn’t seem to matter. If they somehow profit from clicks or comments, why would they want to reduce them? It’s not logical that the new design is to make it easier on moderators. No clicks would make it really easy on them. Who’s paying for all this and why?

Every Running Back
will want their touches reduced to help them get drafted higher. Keep cutting back and I’ll be a first rounder… /s
I think when you have a possible Heisman candidate RB, he wants the ball and you want to give it to him. Plus, your recruiting isn’t going to be helped by telling a 5-star that you have a lot of RBs so you like to spread the touches around.

But...
The commentators are saying how bad the defense looked. If the OL is that bad, why didn’t the DL look better? And if the DL looked bad, could the OL be that poor? My point is, in a scrimmage either the offense or the defense will look better. Both sides can’t be best in a scrimmage.

Catch 22?
Can both the offense and the defense look great in the same scrimmage? Prognosticators say the Texas offense will be one of the most prolific in the country. Would you expect the UT defense to shut it down? If they did, what would it say about the offense? There might be some individuals who didn’t perform especially well, but seems like one side has to perform better than the other.

If These Work...
Better flagging options and strong anti-abuse controls
Mute commenters you don’t want to see
Maybe this will cut down on the infinite number of personal attack, name-calling BS posts that ruin so many threads.

Yes
Many years ago in Dallas, I was working in downtown Dallas making under $2/hr. I would go to Neiman’s at lunch and just walk around and look at cool things. One day a woman picked out 6 gold goblets priced at $800 each. After some thought, she said, "Oh, just make it an even dozen." I’ve always hoped to be able to do that someday. To quote Joe Biden, that’s no joke.

Bipolar Fans
Until yesterday, there was a lot of Kool-aid being mixed. Today, this team is not good at all. Weak at almost every position. WE NEED HELP!!!
And a lot of people seem to think you can just run over to the portal and grab what you need. If only it were so. Any player worth signing has a lot of other schools pursuing him plus the school he’s been playing for may be trying to keep him. It’s not like going to Neiman Marcus to pick up a golden goblet.

Alabama Has Quality Players
Bama consistently has, if not the No 1 recruiting class, one of the top two or three recruiting classes every year. Four and five stars almost exclusively. They can’t all be starters at Bama but are still high quality players. Get them when you can.

Next Step - Transfer Portal
When a young high school football player was making his final decision on where to attend college, he was down to a choice between Texas and Alabama, i.e., Heaven or Hell. He was allowed to visit both places and then make his decision afterwards.
"I’ll see Texas first," said the player, and an assistant coach him led through a golden gate on a private tour. Inside it was very peaceful and serene, and all the people there were playing harps and eating grapes. It looked very nice, but the player was not about to make a decision that could very well condemn him to a career of musical produce.
"Can I see Alabama now?" he asked. The assistant coach pointed him to an elevator, and he went down to the Basement where he was greeted by one of Saban’s loyal followers. For the next half hour, the player was led through a tour of what appeared to be the best football program he’d ever seen. Everyone was a starter on the team and having a, if you’ll pardon the expression, Hell of a time. Everyone was a first-team All-American and NFL contracts were handed out like candy.
When the tour ended, he was sent back up where the assistant coach asked him if he had reached a final decision. "Yes, I have," he replied. "As great as Texas looks and all, I have to admit that Alabama was more of my kind of place. I’ve decided to spend my college career down there."
The player was sent down to Alabama, where he was immediately thrown into a cave and was chained to a wall, and he was subjected to various tortures, rarely getting to play. "When I came down here for the tour," he yelled with anger and pain, "I was promised to be a starter, make All-American and other great stuff! What happened?!"
Saban replied, "Oh, that! That was just the Sales Demo."

Mathis
I believe Mathis has done an unofficial and may be doing an official this weekend. Not positive about the official. The word all spring is that he would wait until the end of the semester to announce a decision.
