So then why are you so condescending?..
Andy Reid has been to the f*ing SB dude! It still doesn’t matter because he’s fielded competitive teams for most years. BOB has too, ftr The point with Reid is he has had alot of responsibility not typically granted with HC these days. He was more or less GM in his final days with Philly. Yet he had plenty of playoff appearances and NFC CCs as you will. What, five in a row or something? Yet there were many dipshits that busted his balls for never winning the big one. He finely realized with the Chiefs that doing all of everything didn’t resonate with him. He had his strengths and weaknesses. He realized and adapted.
Now BOB is in the middle of his adaption era. If he fails bad he should get gone and we should move on. If you can’t recognize this year as positive you might as well be a Patriots fan… Oh wait they did worse than us this year and have an uncertain future
.
You come off as a reactionary and only being supportive if you win everything all the time. There are special types of people that too often correlate with many NFL fans. That is they are those that seek perfection but once they can’t have it want to rage and say ‘we need to be better than my friend’s team at my work.’ Your ego is getting in your way dude. You may say that, "no people like [insert me] are at fault for supporting mediocrity." Now you can surely turn this back on me but the truth is that BO’B has been above average. Not enough to sing praises, not enough to fire. Leave it to the opinions of our irrelevant thoughts. Doesn’t make a difference at any rate. You can stress it, and be dumb, caring about it more than what really matters in your life, or just deal with the cards that present themselves and make the best with them.
At the end of the day you can be an armchair owner but this isn’t madden. It’s either ego, logic or loyalty—as a fan. You can be realistic, fanboy or cancerous. So make presumptions as you want, but the truth is, simmer down.

I understand you just hate BOB
But the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. I’ve seen enough of him that he warrants atleast another year. If the next year things crater, fire him and begin anew, but you could make the same case for Andy Reid. He gets his teams to the playoffs and chokes. Yada yada. Reid is a great coach anyway and he may destroy that narrative this weekend. Truth is, winning in the NFL is tough. The first decade of Texan existence was being a punching bag to Peyton’s Colts. Being a fan back then I had to weather the storm. There was no positive spin, just hope that someday we could be better. BOB has more playoff appearances than ALL of the coaches in Texans history. Also has more playoff wins. My main point is to give him some time and stop being so damn reactionary.
I don’t necessarily think he’s earned the right to be a GM/HC but it is what it is boss.
(By the way I’ll do that but I do remember that DW4 had some nice throws with some downright gaffs too.)

The problem with both is game management imo
I wouldn’t say BOB is world class but he has been able to get the Texans to the playoffs consistently. That should mean something. Like I said in my original post, I’d like to see BOB give over the play calling reigns but what I really want to see is better decision making all around. Consistency week in and week out has been tough to find. Nevertheless, the Texans did beat the Chiefs and Patriots this year and it’s not like DW4 blew the game up, he was pretty average in those games. So I will say that BOB has that potential too. Those game plans were pretty solid. But he also had a few games(e.g. broncos) that were dumpster fires. He’s shown some growth but the inside dives need to go. I’d like to see more outside stretch’s and outside power runs with a guard pulling. Nevertheless, I do like his aggressiveness on 4th this season with the exception of the stupid fake punt against the chiefs. I’d say there has been growth from BOB, but we can agree to disagree.

I'm not saying BOB is without fault but DW4 has to shoulder some of the responsibility and play better too.

Seriously!? What about Nuk?
And Fuller is pretty damn good too WHEN HE CAN STAY HEALTHY. Kenny Stills is no slouch either. I’ll concede there is a major drop off after the top three wideouts but the rest of the offense has shown alot of promise. The rb group is pretty good. The TEs have a solid group. The offensive line is the best I’ve seen since the Kubiak days. Say what you want but saying that DW4 is the only bright spot makes you out to be a DW4 fanboy. Furthermore, I’ll repeat what I wrote a few weeks ago about DW4:
"I love the promise of DW4 but he needs to stop trying to play hero ball every play and actually read the defenses better. He’s magical and his talent helps bail him out but many of the sacks he’s taken are not the fault of the play calling nor the o-line. There is this magical thing called the audible and another magical thing called the hot receiver. He simply panics and starts running around like a chicken with his head cut off— not seeing open receivers in the process. Somehow he still manages to make alot of good plays even then. That’s a testament to his athletic ability. If he manages to use his offensive line to help protect him—yes it goes both ways—he can slide over and hit those creases and breaks in the coverage a little better. He struggles in the red zone because he doesn’t like to play in structure, and doesn’t trust his reads in the passing game. Heck, it seems the only time there are scores in the red zone is if he or one of the rbs run it in. On the rare occasion Darren Fells or Duke helps him out with a flat or stop route but otherwise the red zone has been a problem area. Doesn’t matter how good a coach is, the players have to execute on the field and regardless of the popular opinion that DW4 is akin to Peyton Manning in reading defenses, he simply fails to see what the defense is going to do way too often. He goes for the home run too much but he has gotten better this last year with hitting his checkdowns. DW4 has the tools to become great but he’s way too inconsistent right now."
Tldr: DW4 is magical but he has alot of things to work on going forward.

It's simply amazing to me...
That so many of you couldn’t see this coming. It was stated awhile ago that this was the plan going forward. Now I have my reservations about it but I’m realistic about BOB. He won’t be the first HC/GM hybrid but he might consider relinquishing play calling duties now. That might be for the better but I don’t think he is as bad of a play caller as many of you believe. Now he’s no Andy Reid but he’s good enough to put the Texans offense in a position to win most weeks. Now you might say, "well what happened with the Chiefs or the Broncos, etc?" The defense! The defense couldn’t keep their shit together for the majority of the year. The pass rush was abysmal, the secondary was torched often. However I think the new additions in the back half will pay dividends going forward so long as we keep Roby around or pick up Harris or Jones in FA. The pass rush is a work in progress but I do believe there are good pieces in place. Furthermore, the linebackers are probably the most solid of the defense. So what was so wrong with the defense then? Well play calling was ultra conservative. RAC routinely had corners playing 10-15 yards off the receivers giving the opposing offense the cushion to pick the bones apart. It kind of baffled me because it’s not like our corners are tremendously slow. Sure JJo is a shadow of his former self but the safeties are good enough to play over the top. Also, our pass rush just couldn’t get to the QB with a 3-4 man rush without Watt (or even with him for the most part). The one shining part of the defense was stopping the run but the Panthers and Titans (second game) for example gashed us pretty deep. Nevertheless the run defense was pretty good throughout most of the season. I hope going forward that Antony Weaver is more aggressive than RAC. That will make a huge difference regardless of who we bring back or acquire on that side of the ball next season.
Ok, so let’s go back to O’Brien and the offense. O’Briens fatal flaw is game management. His offenses are pretty good throughout his tenure here. His problem has been being conservative when he needed to be aggressive and being aggressive when he needed to be conservative. The fake punt against the Chiefs was one of the most dumbfounding things I saw this year. It really pissed me off in that situation. So going forward, I would like to see BOB maybe relinquish play calling duties but that’s not a deal breaker. I just know how hard it was for Andy Reid when he was in Philly during the latter stages of his tenure. There are some guys that can GM/HC and call plays, but they are few for a reason. Maybe he can, time will tell. The biggest thing I would like to see is a big investment into analytics. I think having better analytics will help BOB make better decisions in crunch time. All that being said, BOB isn’t as bad at play calling or decision making as what most of you may say. He has a good track record of winning in the NFL. All coaches make alot of bone headed mistakes. It’s the only way to learn how to be better—and this applies to everyone not just NFL HCs. I have hope for next year, and while this last year had it’s peaks and deep valleys, it was still a success. I want next year to be about cleaning up the little things. Better decision making from not only BoB but from DW4 and whoever is the D Coordinator (probably Weaver). Now you all will probably disagree with me and may say, "burn it down now" and to that I will say that patience is a virtue and practice makes perfect.
