Latest Coral Update
I just received an email moments ago that confirmed the official Coral launch date: Wednesday, September 15th. On the day of the launch, there will be an in-depth public post that goes out on all of the NBA sites informing community members to the new change, including a video of what the new platform looks like and how it works (something I fought for really hard to help make this transition much smoother for users).
I’ve written about this impending change a few times now, so I won’t rehash old comments, but I do just want to ask one final time for one thing: patience.
As I’ve said before, very few people hate change more than myself, but this latest change at our site has been deemed necessary by the powers that be and therefore it’s just something me and the rest of our staff will have to learn as we prepare for next season. As not only the "Site Manager" but also the "Community Manager," I can attest that this new change should make moderating our site much easier (or at least I hope) and should allow us to continue having any and all non-basketball related conversations while continuing to weed out personal attacks, harassment, trolling, etc.
Again, I know most (maybe all?) of you are less than thrilled about this, but since taking over 18 months ago, I’ve devoted a lot of time and energy into trying to make Canis Hoopus the best it can be from all angles — not just content ideas and staff acquisitions, but also improving the sense of "community" and making sure everyone enjoys visiting the site. I’ve whiffed a few times as I continue to learn the ropes, but my hope is that this new Coral platform will be just a small hurdle that we can all clear relatively quickly and get back to discussing red wines, soufflé recipes, and foreign relations.
Thanks everyone. Have a great week.

Appreciate all the kind words.
Especially all of the congratulations that people shared a few days ago on Mike’s Cup of Canis article. Really, really means a lot coming from a community of people I respect and enjoy so much.
Wedding (and honeymoon) exceeded our expectations. We had a lot of additional stress leading up to the event due to COVID, but fortunately our entire little group (family and close friends) were all vaccinated and Hawaii had a really streamlined process for vaccinated tourists to enter/leave the islands. I’m also one of the least photogenic humans on Earth, but I think our photographer did a great job of making sure I didn’t bring down the quality of the photos too much.
The wedding itself took place on a catamaran during sunset this past Saturday, the weather was perfect, and I celebrated my first few moments of married life by snorting at least a half dozen mai tais and jumping off the boat into the ocean in my suit. All in all, a great trip.
Thanks again to everyone here as well — both staff and community members — for keeping this ship afloat while I celebrated on another. The upcoming Wolves season is less than 40 days away, so we’ll start ramping up the #kahntent here again really soon. Cheers!

Quick Coral Update
Prior to my vacation, I had mentioned in a post that a new commenting platform would be coming this month. I just got back from my honeymoon last night and saw an email that the release date is expected for sometime next week (once I know the FINAL date, I will let you all know).
I’ll keep this post much shorter than my last one, but again — I know a lot of people are against a major upgrade like this, but I do ask that you all give it a chance and be patient for a day or so until we all get up to speed on how the new platform works (myself included). As mentioned before, I have had a chance to receive basic "training" and while I am still extremely apprehensive to change (which probably explains why I was engaged for 7 years), I honestly believe that this iteration of Coral won’t be nearly as bad as we all originally had thought (and again, anyone who knows me knows I’m not remotely paid enough to be a corporate shill for SBN, I’m just stating my true opinion on this change).
As for the comments about possibly starting a new site/charging membership fees — I fully support anyone who wants to try and create a better, monetized version of Canis. Seriously. I would even be available to answer questions if someone really went all-in on trying to get that project off the ground.
With that said, I’ve covered the team for 6+ years now at Canis, and I personally have taken significant pride in having my content (both written and audio) be available at no charge to other people (it still blows my mind in general that any of you actually want to read my silly opinions on stuff). Making money is not why I got started with this hobby many years back, and while I do receive a small stipend now to manage the site, I prefer to keep all of my work available for free so you all can spend your money on things and people who deserve it more. Again, just my two cents on that topic (but open for feedback/thoughts).
I will let you all know as soon as I do about the Coral release date. Have a great weekend and hug your loved ones.
