Considering he was selected for the All-Decade team of the 1990s, I think it’s fairly easy to make the case that he was one of the best defensive tackles of his era. His ~90 sacks is also a ton for an interior defensive lineman…it’s a pretty excellent career total even for an edge rusher.

But Atwater wasn’t clearly better than Lynch. In fact, I’m really surprised Atwater made it, I never considered him an all-time great. Of course, I probably wouldn’t voted for Lynch either.

But he’s a 4.42 guy himself, so he has the speed to compete. He doesn’t have to give Hill the kind of cushion most corners do.
