Watkins is getting cut.
There’s really not much to it. Unless he was playing like a perennial pro bowler over the last two years, this was always a 2 year contract from the day it was signed.

If he doesn't show up
We’ll get no trade value for him as camp starts after the franchise tag negotiation period. Whoever we trade him to will not be able to sign him to a long term deal. That’s how Jadeveon Clowney was had for 3rd round pick.

Elway doesn't draft QBs unless they can also play power forward

There's only a handful of Data in the league that compare to Jones
Akiem Hicks, Geno Atkins (who is getting pretty old), Fletcher Cox (ditto), maybe Sheldon Rankins. Aaron Donald is the only one who is obviously better than him. The odds of any of the DTs in this draft becoming as good as Jones is now is not particularly high. Remember, it took Jones a couple of years to get to his current level of play. If you’re not planning on being compressive for a few years than you can draft Simmons and pray he pans out. If you want a difference maker at D line this year, it’s Jones or bust. Someone will overpay for Jadeveon who is a great run defender and middling pass rusher. Otherwise you have to take a guy who played really well this season, but has 3+ bad seasons on their resume like Fowler, Dupree, and Shaq Barrett.

Veach?
I liked the trades for Ward, Erving, Ogbah, Rankin, and Ragland. Some of those have worked out (Ogbah,Ward), some have not (Erving), and it’s still too early to say on Rankin, but we gave up Hyde who was going to be cut anyways, so it’s hard to believe we didn’t better ourselves in that trade. I do have a slight issue with what I perceive as Veach way overpaying for "his guys" like Hitchens, Watkins, and Clark (slight overpay on both the contract and the trade imo). Who cares if we overpaid? We just won the Superbowl!

I have a hard time believing that Jones gets less trade value than Clark
Jones is objectively a better player than Clark and should cost about the same. Of course, it’s always possible that Veach just got fleeced last year seeing as how he got a full 1st rounder less for Dee Ford than he gave up for Frank Clark.

Probably the other way around on that trade
Jones and a 2nd for Garrett at best. Garrett was a dark horse DPOY contender before he tried to put Rudolph’s helmet back on him. Either way, it’s not happening.

It's too early to say right now
9 months is the "standard" but there have been more and more players that have returned around 6-7 months. Thornhill is still young and in good shape, both of which help recovery. As Aaron Borgmann would say, every player is different. Maybe he’s back for training camp, maybe he’s on the PuP list to start the year, maybe he’s out for all of next year.

Hmmmm. Let's see what all sides are saying
CJ95: I want to be a Chief
Veach/Chiefs: We want Chris Jones to be on the Chiefs
Math: It’ll be difficult, but possible
Fans: yep, after hearing all that, he’s gone.

It's not like front offices are on here reading the comments of us, the gawking rabble
If they are, they probably aren’t very good. Tbf, the last time the Chiefs drafted someone on AP’s wish list, it was Mahomes (he was the site’s #1 choice well before the draft happened).

2 different kinds of receivers
Wilson can’t separate unless schemed open, but is great once he actually has the ball in his hands. Robinson isn’t nearly as good after the catch, but is a much more intuitive receiver and is pretty good at sight adjustments and playing backyard-style ball. Depends on what you want in a receivers which one is a better fit. For Green Bay, I’d say it is Robinson. For the Rams, Wilson would be a better fit imo.
