That's def one of the potential downsides and a big one.
It will take some very competent reffing to deter fighters from doing that.

I think it's a step in the right direction
It can help create more urgency in fighters if they definitively know where they stand and adjust rather than unknowingly cruise to a loss.
The tough part about is the subjectivity and not knowing what the various and often ignorant judges value more from ring control, strikes, etc.

Maybe, but I think that detracts from Reyes
I think there’s more evidence there of Jones struggling against fighters who are as tall as him and don’t have to cover the massive amounts of distance that the likes of Rampage, DC, Evans, etc. had to get to him. Plus, Reyes did a great job at being a mobile fighter which makes it much harder for Jones to set up his favorite oblique and kicks to the thigh. The cherry on top Jones is great at a lot of things, but a boxer is not one of them. Reyes got to a fast start and really lit up Jones with his superior hands in the first 3 rounds.

Had Reyes first three as well
The third round is the only round I can see being disputed. But at first watch, I had Reyes up until the championship rounds. It’s also crazy that not one of the judges thought Reyes won, let alone one judge thinking Jones won 49-46

Though I would agree Usman would rightfully be the betting favorite
Looking at his opponent lineup Masvidal would be the craftiest striker he’s seen. Colby overwhelms via volume. RDA struggles against the bigger grapplers of 170. Tyron willingly puts himself on the cage where Usman is the strongest. etc.
Though we have seen Masvidal pressured into spots where Usman is not easy to shake off, his dismantlings of Cerrone, Till, Askren, and Diaz showed his ability to capitalize on weak points, being disciplined under fire, and overall an impressive fight IQ.
