A Jersey Retirement Honors the Individual
While Banners for different accomplishments represents the team. Prioritizing what the Grizzlies did as a team over what Pau did himself during his time here seems a bit flawed when it comes to a jersey retirement. However, I guess we all have different criteria that needs to be met. In my opinion, if you arguably are the best player to ever play for a franchise, and that franchise is retiring jersey numbers, you certainly have a case to be included in that honor.
While I see the logic in each of your points
How other teams view Gasol or the criteria other teams place on their jersey retirements is of little consequence, at least to me. He was the first star this franchise had in Memphis, is still arguably the best player to ever play for the Grizzlies, was a trail blazer for the league during his time in Memphis, and is one half of the best brother duo in NBA history that also happens to be the backbone of the Grizzlies for the past two decades. All of that is more than enough for me to retire his number.
