Re: pitch clock
From Andy McCullough:
Here are 10 slowest with the bases empty from 2020 to 2022:
Aroldis Chapman – 26.0 seconds between pitches
Kyle Finnegan — 25.8
Giovanny Gallegos — 25.7
Joe Kelly — 24.8
Kenley Jansen — 24.8
Hunter Strickland — 24.2
Josh Staumont — 24.2
Emilio Pagán — 24.1
Alex Vesia — 23.8
Ryan Pressly — 23.5
And here are the 10 slowest with runners aboard:
Giovanny Gallegos — 32.4 seconds between pitches
Devin Williams — 30.2
Hirokazu Sawamura — 30.1
Kenley Jansen — 29.9
Aroldis Chapman — 29.9
Alex Colomé — 29.9
John Gant — 29.3
Kyle Finnegan — 29.0
Craig Stammen — 28.6
Mark Melancon — 28.5
Perhaps you notice a pattern? These are all relievers. They tend to appear in high-leverage situations where an extra few seconds of concentration feels sensible. They also often pitch with maximum effort, and require that extra time to recover in between offerings. It will be interesting to see how folks adapt.

Yup!
Well, at least that allowed Juwan Howard to bring back the Michigan tradition of not being that good at basketball

I will say that Packer blew both Raftery and Vitale out of the water in knowledge and ability to impart it

That was ROUGH
From pretty clearly in to in the last four in/last four out over the course of a week. I do think Washington is an especially bad matchup for ASU; you need to be patient and work for good shots against the zone and there is nothing patient about ASU

losing consecutive games on the road to our two rivals is unpleasant and should be avoided
my god though the UCLA message boards are insane right now. Sooooooooo many people who really need to have a therapist teach them to work through their feelings

Zone defense was outlawed in the NBA for decades and there are still strict guidelines to what is and isn't allowed

Pitchers can only throw as hard as 98 mph or it's an automatic balk

They did that last year (well, except for Yankee games) and it didn't really change people's approaches at all

There is probably some selection going on at the lower levels as well
Unless you’re a freak like Freddie Freeman who can hit it to all fields and hit with power, your expertise is probably in one of the two and front offices are selecting for power

That'll be interesting
The Doyers, probably the most analytics-heavy team in the majors, have started stealing a LOT more bases

Literally every other sport has outlawed a defensive strategy in the name of offense

I forget, are they enlarging the bases this year too?

The six huddled, in open view, in the equipment area of the Warriors’ locker room: Joe Lacob, Bob Myers, Kirk Lacob, Mike Dunleavy Jr., Kent Lacob and Shaun Livingston.

uh oh
But the same constant ambition that makes the Warriors an elite franchise is the same constant ambition that grinds on those in direct orbit. Sources say Lacob is more involved than ever in the day-to-day personnel choices. He studies the draft, attends workouts and crafts big boards. He played an influential role in the franchise’s choice to use its five recent picks on upside teenagers instead of rerouting some of that capital into older and reliable help to maximize the present.
