How many times did the recap title read something along the lines of
"Offense takes early lead, bullpen blows it in 8th/9th inning"?
How many extra inning games did we lose this year?
One game. One of those games is all we needed.

If the Jays lose today, our season ends. If both the Yankees and Red Sox win today, our season ends. So yeah, we need to win today, and we need one of NYY or BOS to lose.
However, when it comes to the BOS/WSH game, Washington’s pitcher is making his first MLB start today. He began this season at the A+ level. He has a 4.97 ERA at A+ this year, and a 6.43 ERA at AA this year.
Meanwhile, Boston is starting Chris Sale.
So, we either need the Rays to beat the Yankees, or we need Washington’s starting pitcher to pull off some kind of huge freaking miracle, and outduel Chris Sale.

On the bright side
We don’t have to worry about the Yankees / Rays series anymore, because we’re not catching New York for Wild Card 1.
Meanwhile, when it comes to Wild Card 2, it seems the most likely shot at it involves us winning the series against the Orioles 2-1 and have BOS and SEA lose both their series 1-2 (@WSH and vs LAA), to create a three way tie with each of us having 90 wins, so TOR/SEA/BOS get to play a 3-way tiebreaker.
But that involves the Red Sox and Mariners both losing their series to the lowly Nats and Angels, so…
Things are gonna be really tight, with literally no margin for error.

Zero room for error against the Orioles
So, if we lose this game, Wild Card 1 is pretty much gone.
And then as for Wild Card 2, at the likely minimum, we would need to win the series against the Orioles 2-1 and have BOS and SEA lose both their series 1-2 (@WSH and vs LAA), to create a three way tie with each of us having 90 wins.
To avoid a tie, we need to sweep the Orioles, and really hope BOS and SEA get swept.

You want maximum chaos? Let's go for maximum chaos.
NYY: 1-5 (1 win against TOR)
TOR: 3-3 (2 wins against NYY)
SEA: 4-2 (1 win against OAK)
OAK: 5-1 (2 wins against SEA)
Each will finish with a record of 90-72.
Five way tie.
