Leahy isn’t exactly committed to academics either – BC’s been losing ground to BU/NEU and in US News for a solid decade now, with no sense of urgency from the school.
BC’s long overdue for a change at the top.

Not really sure why Penn State is making this move other than maybe his fundraising track record. His coaching hires at the P5 level are too short in nature to evaluate if they’ve been good or not, in the NIL era, I’m still not sure if a New Balance deal is ideal, and he wasn’t earth shattering in success here or at Temple.
Part of the weirdness about this is the BC admin seemed to prioritize Kraft over other hires because it made it clear that this was a destination job for him, and it was more likely that he’d stay longer than some of the "rising stars" that would jump to a better job quickly. The lesson here is probably that every type of half-decent AD is going to keep leaving unless we loosen up the purse strings.

Gakdeng is one of the best freshmen in the country, Soule has a year of eligibility left and I don’t think entered the portal, and there’s a pretty talented incoming freshman class. They won’t be elite, but they’ll be solid.

Not ideal she’s going to another ACC bubble team, but she’s from Georgia – this transfer makes all the sense in the world for her. Hopefully she lights up her ACC opponents and takes rest days against BC (:

Recruits using committing to schools to leverage offers from a different school is as old as time, it’s not new in the NIL era. Remember the Austin Burton commitment?
Players are making a big decision, if they want to decommit and look elsewhere if they feel they have a better offer, they should do that.

An update – Gianni isn’t going too far, he just committed to UMass

From a UConn beat writer, the job was his if he wanted it – there’s absolutely nothing to suggest that BC wasn’t interested or serious. (not sure why his 0 tourney appearances matter when he has 103 more NCAA wins than Brown)
Brown also easily could have done the Kyle Neptune route and then gone to BC if he was as top of a coaching hire as purported.

If Brown was worthy of a very, very good college job, he would have a very, very good college job. He’s in USHL instead.
The tweet itself, as have other reports, say that BC’s admin was very into Cav and that UConn simply made a more lucrative offer. Even if you view Cav=Brown, which I think is iffy at best, there’s a matter of principle that BC’s marquee sport shouldn’t be a sport where other teams are outbidding us.

This is a brutal indictment on Kraft’s work as AD. To be outbid by UConn for a hockey coach given their financial limitations and historical lack of anything in hockey is embarrassing.
Perhaps even more embarrassing is following up the GOAT HC not with a elite NCAA coach elsewhere, but someone who’s never held a head coaching role above USHL.

He was a borderline 4*, and a 3* under 24/7 composite. Offer list didn’t scream 4*, but also wasn’t bad either (VT, Xavier, Providence, Penn State), but unfortunate that it didn’t work out here.
They’re not the Nate Oats Buffalo, but they’re still a very good MAC team, from what I saw at BC, surprised Kanye landed there honestly.

Our last tourney appearance was 2009, and we’ve had one above .500 season in the last decade – we need to re-earn that respect

yeah no student is going to newark (or anywhere) the weekend before finals, but still a very exciting matchup and should be a good alum turnout
