Saladino might have tightened up the D and allowed Abreu to move up a spot.
Might Shuck have been a better play in LF, moving Melky to DH? Gray seems like exactly the type of pitcher who will give Avi fits.

What are the chances Avi is sent down to work on his swing and his defense and his baserunning?
If Eaton is healthy, why not go with Melky, Jackson, Eaton, and random 4th outfielder person? Give Avi the best chance to implement and consolidate all the needed changes to his game.

MLB radio just had this 3-way trade proposal from a caller:
Marlins get Jose Abreu and Avi.
Cardinals get Stanton.
Sox get Dexter Fowler and Dee Gordon.
Makes a lot of sense. I hope Rick was listening.

Why didn't Avi just throw to second?
He came up with the ball, had time to signal to Abreu with his mitt and then make the throw. It would have been a close play at first. Not so at second. He could have jogged it over and made the unassisted putout.
Great catch, though.
And I agree with KenWo that Avi was busting it down the line. Ditto Saladino. No hits for the newbie, but I liked his hustle and his play at third.
