The next 2 games are must wins as they would be bad losses
Wesley still a freshman?
He’s playing better than Grant did as a RS soph.
They would have beaten St. Mary’s had Brey played Wesley more. What a shame Ryan missed that late FT.
The Chaminade game was the problem, because they showed have blown then out. Instead the top 7 guys played way too much and were gassed in the second half versus A & M. The post prescience is what it is. At best Zona could play a few minutes. It seems odd how much Brey praised JR in the preseason and he has barely played.
Most ND fans know these facts
He was also an early entrant which gave him a head start on his true freshman season.
When was the last time a clear cut Bama QB
Had an injury that caused them to miss any games?
With Kelly he had 2 in Crist and Zaire.
You absolutely want to have a competent back up who also believes they can be the starter if the annointed starter falters.
With that in.mind, I don’t really understand your "so be it" comment unless you are excited about the possibility of Ron Powlus Jr or Steve Angeli starting a game this season.

Winbush also had a higher ceiling than Book
Alabama and Georgia have won the last 2 national championships with lower ceiling quarterbacks.
Being able to run the ball versus quality teams and a more athletic back 7 can win big games. If you can run the ball the receivers are a lot more open.
My biggest pet peeve in football
Is on returns. The guy trying to block the defender falls behind him. The defender slows down or stops and the blocker runs into him.
Penalty called every time for blocking in the back.
My basketball pet peeve is defenders intentionally running into screeners and its always called a moving screen.
IIRC a high 4 star

Pyne essentially played 5+ quarters
Versus by far the 2 best defensive teams ND played in the regular season. He also had a few drops in those 30 attempts, recall Austin with a real bad one. To compare passing stats between the 2 is extremely short sighted.
Buchner did not play versus any strong defenses and once the film was out on him, teams were daring him to pass.
Pyne can run also, when you have just 6 carries a couple sacks can skew the rushing totals. Versus Wisconsin he was the only healthy quarterback, so doubt they wanted to expose him on running plays. Coan was awful versus Cincinnati due in large part to an offensive line that had not gelled and was being roughed up. Buchner as a one truck pony was overwhelmed. Pyne is mobile, he’s not Coan. He can pass on the run. Considering how the other two quarterbacks looked versus Cincinnati, doubt they wanted to expose his health on designed running plays once he provided a spark to the offense.
Finally, I have heard a theory that Pyne may be on track to graduate in 3 years. If that is the case he will likely not bolt if he has no chance to start and then find a new home to play two more seasons.
Zona played 18 minutes last season at UNC
Had 5 boards in a last second loss.
This season, not ready to play.
The guard play has never been the same since Martin Ingelsby left
Efficiency and taking care of the ball is not the same.

It would seem Chansi would be more familiar with recruiting in the south
Which might give him the upper hand over the Purdue coach.
Not really sure what stats you are looking at
If you are counting Virginia among those 3 or 4 teams, you can’t because their stud QB was out and they were a mess.
You could count USC, but we all know what a mess they were with another mid-season coaching change and a QB controversy.
Stats wise they were good versus VA Tech, but that was not a good offensive team.
Wisconsin, Ga Tech, Stanford, Navy- Putrid offensive teams.
Total yardage wise they were decent against Toledo, but come on Toledo.
Bracey and Bauer the only decisions left?

It was Freeman's scheme
The difference was they were actually facing a good offense unlike
Virginia without their QB
Georgia Tech without their best QB
Let’s remember how this defense fared versus a 6-7 UNC team with a mobile QB.

The bowl game debacle was more than just poor CB play
The linebacker play was atrocious.
Reckless blitzing with them and not staying home to neutralize QB runs up the middle.
I appreciate Marcus Freeman for his recruiting but there’s no way Clark Lea as DC would have allowed that abomination with that back 7 personnel.
So what decisions are left?
It would seem Davis for a 6th season which is assumed and Bauer for a 5th.
Actually at 56-43, UNC made an adjustment they should have made sooner
In going with just one big and it paid off with an 8 point run.
He sat out as a frosh- gets that year back
Played some as a soph- but gets that year back for Covd
Played some this season as an academic junior- this year counts
His situation is the same as Lugg’s except Lugg did not transfer.
If he is not starting at the close of spring camp, does he go the grad transfer route?
Happen to notice where Joseph is from?
College Station, Texas.
Apparently they have cornered the market on NIL deals.
I actually believe for next season the safety position could be decent with Henderson, Watts, Griffith and presumably Brown.
Who is the other one?
Botelho, Marist, Kollie, Sneed?
If I had to guess, Sneed.

JD Bertrand can make plays chasing guys from behind
Or if he has an angle, but he is easily faked out and often run over. He and White are back ups on top tier teams.
He was also bad versus Cincinnati.
I was wrong regarding your previous post
I thought you maximized going off the rails with that one.
FWIW I have no recollection of Freeman pounding the drum for BLM the 3 weeks before the game.
I have actually seen more of that from Nielle Ivey in her time as a head coach.
Btw had ND pulled off a miracle last second come back like they did with LSU you would not be on here whining and that type of win would do nothing to make rationale fans believe this is a national championship caliber football program.

LOL but you keep ignoring the likelihood ND would have stopped them 3 and out

For those lamenting how bad this loss was
It still doesn’t compare to Kelly’s second season choke in Ann Arbor with punt pass Denard Robinson.

LOL but they would have to use all those time outs
To best case to get the ball back with 2 minutes to go 80 yards with no time outs AND as noted several times Okie State was not going to just had it off up the middle. It doesn’t matter now, let it go.
It was an all or nothing decision, that did not work out.
You need to step away
Outside of Nick Saban there are no sure things in terms of college coaching. It’s all about recruiting and developing a complete QB. Riley, Smart and Dabo had no head coaching experience when they took over.
The goal is to have a team that can win a national championship
Neither of the teams on the fiesta bowl field were close. This team is a long ways away. The talent deficiency in the back 7 with no Hamilton was glaring. The pussification of the offensive scheme because of Kelly could not be overcome in the last 4 weeks. Very limited offense, however this thought that Buchner may be a savior next season seems like fools gold. His throwing accuracy is a major concern. He put up video game stats in one high school season versus a low level of competition.
