In the circle where it matters, I’d wager a blind-sided public retirement excluding all plausible options besides "I hate our new AD and he’s driven me away from the most lucrative woman’s soccer coaching job in the NCAA" is probably not seen as positive for FSU.

And if you see at as just a hatchet job on Alford, I don’t see how you can ignore the institutional impact that has on FSU, who just hired him as the guy who runs a huge arm of the FSU institution.

His international recruiting has been widely known for ages, but how he developed it was always a bit more nebulous. I had some assumption that the possession-oriented approach led to the pro-prep, but it makes sense that it resonated well to global players with pro aspirations.

To publicly torch the institution he helped build on his way out the door.
