Lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Penn State Nittany Lions. Lifelong critic of newspaper calumnists who make their living spouting provocative and uniformed drivel with hope of inciting reaction. They were trolls before we had Trolls. Got hooked on Portland Timbers after relocating to the Pacific Northwet. For those who were "RCTID before it was cool," I hear ya and good on ya. Misappropriating a saying from Texas, "I wasn't RCTID, but got here as fast as I could." Backed Chelsea in the EPL since seeing my first match at Stamford Bridge in 2003.

Here is my 100% guarantee Portland wins...
I’m attending a wedding in Austin during MLS Cup. New England gets eliminated. Portland hosts. I’ll be out of town.
Lead. Pipe. Cinch.

Looking at the replay of Mabiala's goal
If he hadn’t scored, the Rapids committed about 5 fouls in the box. Yeah, I know they’re never called. But…
Now for the storybook ending, Diego Valeri scores the winner in the finals.

I grew up hating the stuff. Canned asparagus is barf-reflex revolting. The smell of it made and makes me sick. Imagine my surprise when eating a) young, b) fresh, c) never in a factory of any kind asparagus done by a competent chef turns out to be not so bad. Someone needs to nuke Del Monte.
Happy Thanksgiving, Phillies Nation. (No asparagus here tonight. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, baked spuds, green beans, salad and a metric shit-ton of pumpkin and home made apple pie a’la Oregavania)

I used to have arguments over a cheesesteak at lunch...
with a buddy in the early 90s about not trading Mariano Duncan. In 93 he was not the 2B or SS of record, but had more ABs than Stocker or Moranidini and turned out to be a vastly underrated part of that team. Segura is a better Mariano Duncan. If the Phils want to win next year, he’s part of that team.

Feels like the old days!
When the most popular man on campus was the backup QB. Clifford for all his ups and downs is no Dayle Tate, John Andress, or Mike Cooper.

Live by the sword...
Adrian Heath’s teams playing Portland defend rough and hope for a goal. They were dominating the run of play until they scored. Then they seemingly decided to sit on the lead while Portland started accumulating chances on the net. I’d commented to a friend if we sneaked a goal back before half, this was our match. I don’t know if Heath told them to sit back and hit, but it backfired.
I was really surprised Blanco came out in the second half. Even before he went down, you could tell something was wrong with him. And that’s how much I know… that 2nd goal was unstoppable. The Minnesota midfield was invisible for long stretches of the 2nd half. D Chara was his normal destroyer, but real props need also to be given Paredes for a fine performance defensively.
All in all, a despicable opponent with Alonso and the utterly detestable Fragopane were so thoroughly dispatched that they literally came unglued at the end.

We need to recall Fragopane's racist epithet
The tackle on Chara wasn’t an accident. Like the summer, he’s going to get away with it.
When it comes to the human race, Fragopane failed in the qualifying heats.

grew up in "Lion Country"
which is to say: Central Pennsyltucky. Walt Bahr’s legacy has been NFL kickers, not MLS and NWSL heroes (certain critics in Orlando noted). I hope and actually kind of expect Sam Coffey will change that. She’s the kind of player we love in PDX…works hard, plays smart, and finds a way to mask the weaknesses of her team.

I was surprised and pleased
To see Gio run a nearly first choice 11 out and go for the win when there was so little upside. I was in Austin for the first match and it was awful. Given all of the injuries this year and despite the national team break to recover, I expected to see a lot more Zembrano, Loria, McGraw et al than we eventually did up 3-nil. It was good to see Moreno get meaningful minutes. He’s still raw, and I’d like to see a quicker choice to shoot at times but you can see potential.
Also pleasing if less surprising was Asprilla’s recognition by the fans. What. A. Season. (so far.)
An aside If you were there and weren’t standing when Valeri subbed on, well… shame on you.
So … with the 2021 regular season behind us, we set our records for Most Wins, Most Losses, Fewest Draws all in one. Most Goalkeepers used during a season? It’ll be interesting to compare this to 2011 to see about most players used.
