AFC standings: Broncos, Patriots among league's best

New, comment

The Broncos still control their destiny for the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Chiefs are right behind them and clinched a playoff spot. Here are the updated standings after Week 15.

With just two weeks left in the regular season, the AFC playoff picture is starting to get clear. One more team locked up a playoff spot, but the race for the No. 1 seed is still open.

The Denver Broncos and New England Patriots were both tripped up by their respective opponents. Denver missed a chance to clinch the AFC West, but they're still in line to get homefield advantage. The Kansas City Chiefs punched their playoff ticket with a blowout win over the Oakland Raiders.

The AFC North race is getting interesting. The Cincinnati Bengals suffered a loss on Sunday night, while the Baltimore Ravens beat the Detroit Lions to stay in the No. 6 position. Baltimore is now just one game behind Cincinnati in the division race.

There are four teams still alive in the hunt. The Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers kept their postseason hopes alive with important wins, while the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets are still clinging to hope.

1. Denver Broncos (11-3)*
2. New England Patriots (10-4)
3. Cincinnati Bengals (9-5)
4. Indianapolis Colts (9-5)*
5. Kansas City Chiefs (11-3)
6. Baltimore Ravens (8-6)

In the hunt: Miami Dolphins (8-6), San Diego Chargers (7-7), Pittsburgh Steelers (6-8), New York Jets (6-8)
